Adventure Training...

Adventure Training is a core part of the Air Cadet Organisation; it lets cadets learn skills in the outdoor and combat environment that they wouldn’t otherwise know. Adventure Training or AT for short has always been an integral part of the ACO as is shown in the Air Cadet motto ‘Venture Adventure’.

The Air Cadet’s have two National Air Cadet Adventure Training Centres; these are located in Windermere in the Lake District and in Llanbedr in Southern Wales. Cadets from 2394 squadron get the opportunity to attend the centre in Windermere on an annual basis for a week long camp, where they learn the skills necessary to move and survive properly in the British Mountains and how to prepare properly for expeditions. This training culminates in a 2 day expedition taking in the slopes of Helvellyn. Adventure Training is not all about learning how to walk and navigate; it also provides a source of immense fun and laughter for cadets. While at 2394 squadron enjoys a close relationship with her nearest other squadron, namely 1869 (Middlesbrough) squadron. The two squadrons annually attend an adventure training camp, along with some other local squadrons, at the nearby army training at Catterick Garrison. Staying in the “beloved” Hudswell Grange Farm, on the training ranges the cadets carry out a weekend of military skills training and radio exercises. The training ranges from learning about camouflage and concealment to sentry duties, to observation techniques to full bore shooting on the outdoor ranges. Catterick enables the cadets to learn military skills that will help them when they take part in exercises on camp and on other occasions as well as giving them an insight into military training and what they may look forward to if they decide to the armed forces.

Adventure Training at 2394 squadron is co-ordinated by Adult Sergeant Bertram, with Corporal Wild as NCO in charge, they also work closely with the rest of the NCO team especially Cadet Sergeant Hurley who is NCO in charge of the Duke of Edinburgh’s award on the squadron.
