The Duke of Edinburgh ward Scheme is a voluntary, non-competitive programme, consisting of practical, cultural and adventurous activities for young people aged 14-25. The award programme has three levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each has differing criteria for entry and the level of achievement necessary to complete each award. Air Cadets who meet the age criteria can join the award scheme and complete it with other cadets on their squadron. Each award is broken down into 4 areas (5 for gold) which participants must complete successfully to receive their award.
The structure of the scheme and how it can be applied at the Squadron is outlined in the table below:
These are only examples of the things that can be done at each level. There are many options for every section which means that the Award scheme can be tailored for every cadet.
On completion of each level a cadet is awarded a cloth badge to wear on their uniform. They also get a pin badge and certificate. For those who complete their Gold Award, the presentation of their certificate is made at either St James Palace or Buckingham Palace in the presence of the Duke of Edinburgh.

Bronze, Silver & Gold Award Cloth Badges
At Squadron our belief is that every cadet is capable of achieving at least a Bronze Award. By taking a full and active part in the Squadron, much of the Award scheme can be completed without having to put in too much additional effort.
